Awards week continued Wednesday night with the Cy Young Award announcement. New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom and Tampa Bay Rays lefty Blake Snell were named as winners by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
DeGrom beat out Washington’s Max Scherzer and Philadelphia’s Aaron Nola for the honor. He earned 29 of 30 first place votes. Snell received 17 of 30 first place votes to best Houston’s Justin Verlander for the award in the American League. Cleveland’s Corey Kluber finished second.
