Hoornstra: Braves could be National League’s new superteam

Game 6 of the World Series was a watershed moment for the city of Atlanta, which had waited since 1995 to crown a baseball champion. The 26-year title drought ended Tuesday night in Houston. Now, there’s a spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum waiting for Joc Pederson’s pearl necklace when the champions’ exhibit goes live in Cooperstown.

The World Series might have been a watershed moment for the National League, too.

For years, baseball’s Senior Circuit has been an antidote to the American League, where four superteams emerged as an oligarchy. These teams – the Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox – have represented three of the final four AL teams every year since 2017.
