Dale Murphy comes up short in Hall of Fame bid

The Modern Baseball Era Committee announced its voting results Sunday night at the Winter Meetings in San Diego. Atlanta Braves legend Dale Murphy was one of 10 candidates on the Modern Era Ballot but once again came up short in the voting. The committee did elect former executive Marvin Miller and catcher Ted Simmons. Both will be enshrined in Cooperstown in July.

Simmons becomes the first player to be elected after falling off the writer’s ballot in the first year. He wrapped up the final three seasons of his major league career playing for Atlanta and currently serves as one of their Major League scouts.
