After outscoring the St. Louis Cardinals 13-1 in the first two games of the series, the Atlanta Braves’ offense ground to a halt in a 9-1 loss in Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader.
Bryse Wilson made his Major League start since May 22 but quickly found himself in trouble. Tommy Edman greeted him with a lead off single and stole second to put himself in scoring position with one out. Wilson got Paul Goldschmidt to fly out deep to center but was unable to escape as Nolan Arenado followed with a two-run homer to left to stake the Cardinals to an early lead.
