Braves sign former Padres first-round pick on Thursday

Toward the end of August each MLB season, multiple players are designated for assignment by their current organization, but with the waiver wire, other teams are eligible to claim a player and pick up the remaining money on their contract.

It was reported on Thursday that the Atlanta Braves are claiming former San Diego Padres first-round draft pick from 2016, Cal Quantrill, off waivers.

Quantrill's journey in Major League Baseball

Quantrill started 24 games for the Miami Marlins this season, and he posted a 5.50 ERA in 109.2 innings pitched. Certainly not his best showing in his seven-year career, and remarkably, he actually pitched better in Colorado last season than he did this year with the Marlins, which is a much favorable pitcher's park.
