The Braves have released right handed reliever Shane Greene, according to Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Greene, who struggled to find work this past offseason and ultimately signed with the Braves once the regular season began, was not effective at all. He posted a 8.47 ERA across 19 appearances with poor underlying metrics (6.77 FIP, 5.66 xFIP, -0.3 WAR) and clearly was no longer the same reliever who threw important innings for the Braves in 2019 and 2020.
Greene was brought in to stabilize the bullpen, but that, obviously, did not happen. Fortunately, the likes of Tyler Matzek and Luke Jackson have stepped up in a big way over the last month, and the deadline addition of Richard Rodriguez looks like an impactful one.
