Atlanta Braves rookie right-hander AJ Smith-Shawver will miss the remainder of this season and likely most of next due to a torn UCL in his pitching elbow.
The team made the announcement Friday, a day after Smith-Shawver left his start against the Philadelphia Phillies in the third inning with the injury.
He was placed on the 15-day injured list after that game, then was transferred to the 60-day IL on Friday.
Manager Brian Snitker said Friday that Smith-Shawver is still undergoing evaluations on the elbow and will decide what procedure to undergo once those are complete.
