How Acquired
The Braves acquired Will Smith in November 2019, signing him to a three-year, $40 million deal that included a team option for a fourth year. Smith was coming off an All-Star campaign with the San Francisco Giants where he spent the previous three-and-a-half seasons, though he missed all of 2017 and part of 2018 following Tommy John Surgery.
