2016 MLB Draft: Braves select Jeremy Walker with the 139th pick

The Braves go with Jeremy Walker RHP out of Gardner-Webb University. The Braves had tons of success recently going with pitchers out of small schools in last years draft that had projectability and that’s exactly what Jeremy Walker has. While his numbers aren’t great, he went 9-5 with a 3.77 ERA and 1.29 WHIP, he has great size (6’5”) and a big frame (200+ lbs).

Walker has a 3 pitch arsenal featuring a low-to-mid-90s fastball, topping out around 96, a slider and a mid-70s curveball. His mechanics need some work, and there is also the possibility cleaning them up can lead to an increase in velocity.
