Wayne Rooney is closing in on stunning swoop to bring Crystal Palace and Belgium striker Christian Benteke to DC United.
According to The Washington Post, a deal has been struck between the two sides and Benteke, 31, is set to become the best paid player in the history of the team - eclipsing the $2.7m annual salary Rooney earned as a player for DC.
Benteke has 86 Premier League goals to his name after playing for Aston Villa, Liverpool and Palace.
Speaking after his team lost to Charlotte in the week, Rooney said he wanted to bring in one more player.
