Shaun Maloney is named the new Wigan boss as the former Latics FA Cup winner returns to bottom-of-the-table Championship club after Kolo Toure was sacked for failing to win ANY of his nine games in charge

Shaun Maloney has been appointed as Wigan Athletic's new manager after agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal at the English second division club.

The Championship side have been on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Kolo Toure following a dismal 58 days in charge of the side.

Maloney, a former Wigan player, returns to the club having lifted the FA Cup with the Latics under Roberto Martinez in 2013 and a wealth of coaching experience to his name.

Since retiring from playing in 2017 having enjoyed spells at Celtic, Aston Villa, Wigan, Chicago Fire, and Hull, Maloney returned to Scotland to coach the Celtic B team.
