Poland set to make fresh approach for Aston Villa defender Matty Cash ahead of next round of World Cup qualifiers as English-born full back is eligible to represent country through his mother

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash is set to be approached by Poland ahead of the next round of World Cup qualifiers.

The full back, who qualifies through family on his mother’s side, has been on the Poles’ radar for some time but has been reluctant to commit as he still has hopes of being chosen by England.

But they plan further talks with the 24-year-old’s representatives ahead of next month’s matches against San Marino and Albania.

Cash has impressed since joining Villa from Nottingham Forest in 2020 but plays in a particularly competitive position: Trent Alexander-Arnold has struggled to establish himself under England boss Gareth Southgate, with Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier ahead of him in the queue.
