Pepe Reina sparks controversy as he supports anti-lockdown protest in Madrid held by far-right party Vox, as he claims: 'The little people have gone out to the street!'

Aston Villa goalkeeper Pepe Reina has sparked controversy during the coronavirus pandemic as he openly supported an anti-lockdown protest held in his hometown Madrid, Spain.

The situation in Spain is improving with the infection rates of the virus lowering, but strict lockdown measures are still in place with Spain having the fourth-highest death rate of any country in the world from Covid-19.

Despite lockdown measures beings set to ease in several days, thousands of protesters still took to the streets to criticise the government's handling of the virus outbreak, as Reina supported the protest online.
