Brendan Rodgers fears top players will be put off going into management due to the fierce demands of the modern game... as Leicester boss prepares to face former pupil Steven Gerrard when his side take on Aston Villa

Brendan Rodgers believes the demands of modern football may deter great players from turning to management as he prepares to face Steven Gerrard for the first time in the Premier League.

Rodgers takes his Leicester team to Aston Villa to cross swords again with Gerrard, who was his captain for three seasons when Rodgers was Liverpool manager. The pair then did battle on opposite sides of Glasgow’s Old Firm, Rodgers at Celtic and Gerrard at Rangers.

Of England’s ‘Golden Generation’, Gerrard is the only current Premier League boss, though Wayne Rooney – another former England captain – is manager of troubled Championship club Derby.
