Aston Villa have the option to recall winger Jack Grealish after his one-match ban following his red card at Nottingham Forest on 4 February.
Conor Hourihane could face Barnsley three weeks after leaving his former club but fellow Barnsley old boy James Bree (ankle), who missed Saturday's 1-0 home loss to Ipswich, is a doubt.
The visitors will be without midfielder Josh Scowen at Villa Park.
He suffered an ankle injury in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Reading.
George Moncur is expected to make his first league start for the club in place of Scowen, while Alex Mowatt is still suspended.
