Aston Villa fear Tyrone Mings suffered serious knee injury against Newcastle with defender facing a long absence that adds to mounting crisis

Aston Villa fear Tyrone Mings has suffered serious damage to his knee with the defender facing a lengthy absence that adds to the club’s mounting injury crisis.

The England centre-back was carried off on a stretcher after 31 minutes and became the fourth key first-team player out of action, with Alex Moreno, Jacob Ramsey and Emiliano Buendia also on the sidelines.

They were due to learn more on Mings’ injury on Sunday.

Buendia damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in training at the end of last week, while Moreno had hamstring surgery during the summer and Ramsey broke a bone in his foot while playing for England in the European Under-21 Championships in June.
