Unai Emery targeting sensational swoop for Sevilla transfer chief Monchi at Aston Villa after Barcelona's Mateu Alemany turned down role last month

Unai Emery is targeting legendary Sevilla transfer chief Monchi for a senior role at ambitious Aston Villa.

Villa boss Emery has carte blanche to shape first-team affairs as he sees fit and after being turned down by Barcelona director Mateu Alemany last month, Villa now look set to turn to Monchi.

Reports in Spain on Wednesday indicated Villa were preparing an offer for Monchi, who is thought to earn about £4million a year at Sevilla.

Monchi, 54, has been at Sevilla since 2000, save a two-year spell at Roma from 2017-19.
