Nobody expects Villa to win the European Cup for a second time - at least not yet. But returning to continental competition during Emery's time in charge is viewed as a realistic target.

After signing a three-year deal, the former Arsenal boss' first task will be to guide Villa away from the danger zone in the Premier League.
