Supporters have questioned why Gabriel Martinelli was not sent off for 'atrocious' challenge on Southampton defender Jan Bednarek.

Martinelli and Bednarek contested a long ball forward by Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale roughly midway through the first half, with the Poland international gaining a better leap than the winger.

Appearing to realise he was not going to win the ball, Martinelli did not jump and instead stood still, allowing Bednarek to flip over him and onto his back.

The defender fell heavily on his upper back, neck area and was down for an significant period of time as he was tended to by both Southampton's doctors and Arsenal's.
