Project Restart's injury woe: Former England and Arsenal physio Gary Lewin warns players he expects they will suffer muscle and joint problems with no proper pre-season or friendlies

Players are at an increased risk of muscle and joint injuries with Project Restart failing to provide a proper pre-season to build fitness, warns former England and Arsenal physio Gary Lewin.

Having been given the green light by government to accelerate a return to action to complete the 2019-20 season, Lewin has warned that one look at the Bundesliga's return earlier this month should serve as a warning.

In the first round of matches following a two-month hiatus for the coronavirus pandemic, there were eight muscle injuries in the Bundesliga and for Lewin, the Premier League could expect to see similar without proper preparation.
