Premier League’s Champions League debutant clubs ranked – worst to best

The team with the dubious honour of having the worst Champions League debut campaign goes to the Toffees. Having finished fourth in the Premier League, they face Villarreal in the third qualifying round, losing both legs 2-1, resulting in a 4-2 loss on aggregate.

9. Blackburn Rovers (1995/96) – Finished bottom in the group stage

Under the management of Ray Harford following the resignation of Kenny Dalglish, the Premier League champions took on Spartak Moscow, Legia Warsaw, and Rosenborg. They lost their opening three games, scoring just once, through Mike Newell, before a 0-0 bore draw with Legia at home.
