Mesut Ozil's latest career lifeline is at Istanbul Basaksehir after AGAIN being exiled by Fenerbahce... the 33-year-old's friendship with President Erdogan could be behind his latest move, but he is running out of road in the twilight of his playing days

Another exile followed by another fresh start for Mesut Ozil. He's now signed for Istanbul Basaksehir, 29 minutes after his Fenerbahce release had been confirmed.

The latter club tore up Ozil's contract after a four-month exile due to a row about his fitness. He had been training alone after falling out of favour with interim head coach Ismail Kartal but new manager Jorge Jesus didn't offer him a route back into the first-team fold.

The 33-year-old joined Fenerbahce in January 2021 after finally leaving Arsenal - his last appearance for the Gunners was almost a year prior, in March 2020.
