Match report: Arsenal Women 0-4 Barcelona

We suffered a second defeat in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage on Thursday night as we were beaten 4-0 by Barcelona.

Jonas Eidevall’s side delivered a hard-working and committed performance - but it wasn’t enough to trouble the current champions of Europe, who were faultless in all phases of play.

Barcelona started the game by dominating possession and pinning us deep into our half, but it was Jordan Nobbs who came closest in the opening exchanges, trying her luck with a cheeky effort from distance that sailed just over the crossbar.

This boosted our confidence as we started to find our feet in the game and consequently put together some promising passing moves - but following an underhit back pass from Jen Beattie on the halfway line, Aitana Bonmati raced through on goal and coolly finished past Manuela Zinsberger.
