Henri Anier’s goal four minutes from time saw the hosts claim the victory and top spot in the group with one game to spare, which will see them head to San Marino on Monday.
Meanwhile, in League A Xhaka captained Switzerland to a 2-1 away win against Spain to inflict their opponents' first home defeat in four years, and end their 22-match unbeaten run in the process.
