'I knew the goal was coming': Raul Jimenez expresses his joy after ending a 336-day Wolves drought to score a brilliant winner against Southampton following his recovery from a fractured skull

Raul Jimenez expressed his delight after scoring his first Wolves goal for nearly a year following a fractured skull as Gary Lineker and Graeme Souness were among those to pay tribute.

The 30-year-old's previous strike for the West Midlands outfit came when he netted the opener in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle in October 2020.

A month later, a sickening clash of heads with David Luiz against Arsenal at the Emirates saw the Mexican stretchered off, with fears that he may not be able to return to football.

However, after a gruelling rehab process, Jimenez made his comeback on the opening day of this season against Leicester and made four further goalless starts before finally breaking his duck with the only goal in the 1-0 victory at Southampton as he latched onto a long punt downfield by goalkeeper Jose Sa, outmuscling Jan Bednarek in the process before sending Mohammed Salisu and Bednarek to ground and slotting past Alex McCarthy.
