Horseman on comeback win over Newport

David Horseman praised the character and effort of our under-21s as they came from behind to beat Newport County 2-1 in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night.

Horseman was taking charge of his first game since joining our academy coaching staff, and was delighted with how our young Gunners stood up to the physical test posed by Newport.

“Obviously these games are really important for these players’ development and we’re a really young group and what these games give you is the physical side of it.

“You have to compete in the first phases and second phases and if you don’t do that then generally it’s why the under-21s teams lose quite a lot in this competition and I think we did those things early in the game, we gave too many balls away in key areas.
