Beth Mead has been crowned as the 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year, becoming the first women's footballer to ever win the prize.

The 27-year-old Arsenal striker inspired the Lionesses to success at Euro 2022, with England winning their first major international competition since the men's team lifted the World Cup in 1966.

Mead won the public poll ahead of England Test cricket captain Ben Stokes and Olympic curling champion Eve Muirhead, while Ronnie O'Sullivan, Jessica Gadirova and Jake Wightman were also in the six-person shortlist.
