Five of the clubs that signed up for the ill-fated European Super League will not feature in the last-16 of the Champions League in the latest embarrassment for the struggling project.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were dumped out of the group stage on Wednesday night, joining Juventus, who were also eliminated on the fifth match day following a defeat in Benfica.
That means that at least five of the original 12 clubs signed up for the ESL project will not feature in the advanced stages of the Champions League, with Arsenal and Manchester United having failed to qualify.
