Arsene Wenger advises Eddie Howe to ignore England while he is young as Arsenal boss reveals he turned down France at a similar age

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he was offered the France national team job when he was in his late 30s, just as his opposite manager, Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe is in contention for the England job.

But Wenger says that just as he turned down the lure of international management at that age, so Howe is probably well advised to stick to club coaching, at least at present.

Howe is 39 this week and at that stage of his career Wenger was managing Monaco and had just won the French league with Glenn Hoddle and Mark Hateley in his team.
