Arsenal's £27million defender William Saliba is called up by France for the first time after impressing on his THIRD loan spell away from the club at Marseille, as he replaces Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard

Arsenal defender William Saliba has been called up to the France squad for the first-time as he replaces Bayern Munich's Benjamin Pavard.

The 20-year-old, who is currently on loan at Marseille, has impressed in Ligue 1 with side currently sitting second behind PSG.

The centre-back has made 40 appearances in all competitions for Jorge Sampaoli's side so far this campaign and will now potentially get his chance to shine on the international stage as Pavard has tested positive for Covid-19.

The Gunners signed the defender for £27million in 2019 but he has yet to make a competitive appearance for the first-team with his only games coming for the Under-23s and in pre-season friendlies.
