Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Freddie Ljungberg has promised to return to the club after leaving to join Wolfsburg as assistant manager

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed Freddie Ljungberg promised to return to the Emirates in the future after joining Wolfsburg.

Ljungberg, part of the 2004 Arsenal 'Invincibles' side, had been working as a coach for the Gunners, but has joined the Bundesliga side as assistant to new manager Andries Jonker, who was formerly head of the north London side's academy.

The 39-year-old former Sweden international played under Wenger at Arsenal for nine years, and the manager says he will be looking to return eventually.
