Senior forward Khadija Brown-Haywood finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds to help the Arkansas State women's basketball team defeat Southern 68-45 Thursday night in the first round of the WNIT at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro.
The Red Wolves (27-5) advanced to the second round of the WNIT, where they will play Texas-El Paso at 8 p.m. Central on Monday. ASU is in the WNIT second round for the second consecutive year. Middle Tennessee ended ASU's season last year in a 70-60 loss in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
ASU won the Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship, going 19-1.
