JONESBORO -- Ahmere Foster of Southern Miss intercepted a pass from Arkansas State quarterback Jaylen Raynor in the end zone on the final play of the game to preserve a 27-21 win for the Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon in front of an announced crowd of 15,441 at Centennial Bank Stadium.
The interception was the fifth of the game for the Golden Eagles, who now lead the FBS with 20 interceptions this season. With the win, Southern Miss (7-2, 5-0) took sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt Conference West Division standings.
"At the end of the day, we had an opportunity to win the game on the final play and came up a little bit short," ASU Coach Butch Jones said.
