LOGAN, Utah — Penalties kept Arkansas State from staying close in the first half, so much so that not even a rejuvenated offense sparked by a quarterback change could keep it from a third consecutive loss.
Justice Hansen relieved Chad Voytik in the first quarter and passed for 277 yards and 1 touchdown, but ASU’s 18 penalties and three turnovers were too much in a 34-20 loss to Utah State at Maverik Stadium.
Utah State (2-1) took a 17-0 lead on two touchdowns sparked by a Voytik fumble and an interception. That’s when ASU made the change to Hansen, who led two third-quarter scoring drives to get ASU close, but couldn’t finish two more to cap the comeback.
