Ayers (3-5) scattered four hits across seven innings for his second quality start of the season. He struck out four and walked one. He gave up just one extra base hit and threw 58 of his 91 pitches for strikes. Zuber pitched the final two innings to close out the game.
The shutout was the third of the season for Arkansas State and it's second over its last three games.
The Red Wolves wasted no time in building an early lead and scored three runs in the first inning.
