JONESBORO -- In a choppy game that saw a combined 45 fouls called, the Arkansas State men made four free throws in the final 1:26 to outlast Texas State 83-82 on Saturday afternoon at First National Bank Arena.
Trailing by two points with just 0.9 seconds to play, Texas State needed Robert Fields to intentionally miss a free throw in hopes of an offensive rebound and putback that would have tied the game. However, Fields unintentionally made the free throw and ASU was able to get the ball inbounded following a timeout to run out the clock.
The win put the Red Wolves in a virtual four-way tie for first place in the Sun Belt Conference standings with Southern Miss, Georgia Southern and Troy.
