A-State downs Southern, moves on to round two of the WNIT

“Well, overall it was just a good performance by us against a good team,” A-State Head Coach Brian Boyer said. “Southern had 19 wins and you know that they were a quality opponent just from watching film. They were a very persistent group and they were again tonight.”

A-State got going early thank to Khadija Brown-Haywood, who scored 17 points in the first half. Brown-Haywood had 15 of the Red Wolves 28 points with 4:11 to go in the first half, and, at that point, was outscoring the entire Southern team 15-14.

A-State was very persistent on the defensive end tonight, and made it hard for Southern to every get into a rhythm on offense.
