FAYETTEVILLE — As he stepped up to a gaggle of cameras and microphones June 16 in the hallway outside Arkansas’ locker room at Charles Schwab Field, pitching coach Matt Hobbs chuckled as he fielded his first question.
“Aren’t you glad you didn’t start the left-hander?” a reporter quipped.
Unfathomable in the wake of one of the greatest pitching performances in the history of the College World Series — a 19-strikeout no-hitter by Arkansas junior right-hander Gage Wood — there had actually been a question, at least from media members, the day before about whether the Razorbacks would throw Wood or left-hander Landon Beidelschies in an elimination game against Murray State.
