Arkansas football took a crippling gut punch on Saturday, squandering an 18-point lead and losing 32-31 to Memphis.
In a major instance of deja vu, Arkansas lost a fumble on its final drive, deep in enemy territory and trailing with less than 2 minutes left. The Hogs also wasted their last chance to get the ball back, allowing backup quarterback Arrington Maiden to drag the entire defense past the sticks for a game-sealing first down.
It was the cherry on top of a miserable day for defensive coordinator Travis Williams’ unit, which gave up 489 yards of total offense, missed a litany of tackles and appeared lackadaisical throughout the game.
