When the time comes for Arkansas baseball coach Dave Van Horn to retire from the post he’s held for over two decades, many folks believe Tony Vitello should be the top candidate to be his successor.
After serving as an assistant at Arkansas under Van Horn from 2014-17, Vitello took the head coaching job at Tennessee and, essentially starting from scratch, has turned the Volunteers into a perennial contender. After the Vols brought home their first national title in program history last year – beating Van Horn and Arkansas to that feat – many felt the “prodigal son” succession plan was dead before it ever came to fruition.
