The Razorback Who Learned Lessons from Holtz to Hand Saban His Worst Defeat at Alabama

Through most of his youth, playing for Lou Holtz was never the plan for Kim Dameron.

Born in Hot Springs in 1960 and growing up in Northwest Arkansas, Dameron witnessed the glory days of the Razorbacks under the legendary Frank Broyles. He envisioned himself playing for his home-state powerhouse from a young age, so much so that he passed on a scholarship offer from Arkansas Tech to walk on with the Hogs in 1979.

But with Broyles’ surprise retirement in 1976 at the age of 52, it was Holtz in charge of the Razorbacks when the scrawny 18-year-old wide receiver arrived on campus.
