Texas football 'OK' despite season that has fallen short of expectations

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian was asked Monday for the main reasons why his No. 17 Longhorns (7-3, 4-2 SEC) have underachieved this season.

“According to who?” Sarkisian asked.

The questioner pointed to a preseason No. 1 rank in the Associated Press poll and losses to Ohio State, Florida and Georgia that quashed SEC championship hopes and put the Longhorns on the fringe of the 12-team College Football Playoff.

“I guess that’s into who voted us No. 1,” Sarkisian replied. “What I think is that this team has competed their tail off. They’ve been faced with a lot of different adversity and injuries, and a lot of stuff has come across this team’s plate.
