FAYETTEVILLE — Blowout scores on paper often hide mistakes. Arkansas football's 52-7 win over Alabama A&M on Saturday was no exception.
A 70-0 shutout like last year’s season opener was unlikely to repeat with seventh-year quarterback Cornelious Brown IV on the opposing sideline. But Alabama A&M scoring faster on its first drive than Arkansas did? That seemed far-fetched.
Arkansas won the coin toss, chose to receive and scored in 4 minutes and 51 seconds on its opening drive. Despite two false start penalties, Alabama A&M did it in 3:35. Brown, using play-action, connected with freshman receiver Jordan Chambers-Smith and tight end Travaunta Abner on 18- and 26-yard passes, respectively, to keep the drive alive.
