Bobby Petrino doesn’t naturally gravitate toward comparisons between the best players he’s coached through the decades and those currently at Arkansas.
Generally speaking, it’s a no-win situation. The former great may get offended if he doesn’t feel the current player has done enough to deserve the comparison, while the current Razorback may feel unnecessary pressure to live up to the stellar standards of certain all-conference or all-American predecessors.
Plus, as the old cliche goes, every player has his own style anyway.
Some references, however, are simply unavoidable. Every time Petrino coaches a dual-threat quarterback, for instance, folks are going to want to know how that signal-caller stacks up to Lamar Jackson, the Heisman Trophy winner and future two-time NFL MVP he coached at Louisville.
