OMAHA, Neb. — When Arkansas baseball plays its elimination game against Murray State on Monday at the College World Series, two players from Batesville — population 11,515 — will take the field.
Razorbacks starting right-hander Gage Wood and Racers shortstop Conner Cunningham are both Batesville High School alumni.
Cunningham, the Missouri Valley Conference co-freshman of the year, will face Wood, a junior ranked the No. 50 prospect in the upcoming draft by MLB.com.
“There's a huge, palpable buzz that's going on around town, and we're so excited for it,” Batesville coach Tony Roepke said.
