The 2025 MLB Draft will go down as the most successful in Arkansas baseball history.
A whopping 11 Razorbacks heard their name called the last two days, which tied Florida State for the most in the country this year and matches a school record held by the 2013 and 2018 teams.
However, those two years were during the 40-round era of the draft and included multiple players taken in the back half of the event. Since the MLB Draft was shortened to 20 rounds in 2021, Arkansas hadn’t even reached double-digit picks.
But that’s not the only way this was a historic draft for the Razorbacks:
- First time in UA history with a first-round pick in back-to-back years (Hagen Smith in 2024, four this year)
- First time in UA history with multiple first-round picks (Gage Wood, Wehiwa Aloy, Zach Root, Charles Davalan)
- Second team in MLB Draft history with four first-round picks in one year (Tennessee also did it this year)
- Most selections from Arkansas in the top 20 rounds (11 — surpassing 9 in 2018, 2021 and 2022)
- Most selections from Arkansas in the top 15 rounds (10 — surpassing 9 in 2022)
- Most selections from Arkansas in the top 10 rounds (9 — surpassing 8 in 2022)
- Most selections from Arkansas in the top 5 rounds (6 — surpassing 4 in 2010 and 2022)
The most significant development from this year’s draft, though, has nothing to do with history, but rather the future: Only four Arkansas signees/commits were selected and all of them came off the board after the 10th round.
