More missed opportunities for Arkansas football in close loss at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. — Everything was going well for the Arkansas football team Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium — maybe a little too well during an eventual 23-22 loss.

Despite fumbling from the LSU 24 on the opening drive, the Razorbacks (2-8, 0-6 SEC) held a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Freshman linebacker Wyatt Simmons and senior safety Caleb Wooden teamed to block a punt, and Wooden returned it for a touchdown.

Then, a short 24-yard punt by LSU’s Grant Chadwick set up an 11-play, 52-yard touchdown drive by Arkansas.

The first blocked punt for a touchdown by Arkansas since 2009 — when interim coach Bobby Petrino was the program’s full-time head coach — marked the halfway point to a repeat of the 2011 game.
