No matter how much they win or lose, college football coaches tend to leave on unceremonious terms. To quote former NFL coach Bum Phillips, who was in no way a bum himself, “There’s two kinds of coaches, them that’s fired and them that’s gonna be fired.”
While former Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt had the wherewithal to get out of Dodge and resign before falling victim to that fate, his relationship with the Razorbacks certainly waned toward the end of his decade-long tenure.
Time heals all wounds, though – most of them, anyway – and Nutt’s magnetic personality and unrivaled passion for the Hogs has made him a beloved figure in the state of Arkansas.
