Over the last few Arkansas baseball seasons, there has been one constant: the pitching staff is always elite. The program has produced stars like Golden Spikes winner Kevin Kopps and lefty sensation Hagen Smith. Isaiah Campbell, who is arguably a top 5 pitcher to take the mound as a Razorback. And of course, there’s Arkansas’ two 2025 MLB draft first-rounders, Zach Root and Gage Wood — the first ever pair of Razorback pitchers selected in the first round in the same year.
What do all five have in common? They were coached by Matt Hobbs.
Since Dave Van Horn hired him in 2019, the 2024 D1Baseball Assistant Coach of the Year has sent 30 players to the MLB over six seasons, including seven this year.
