Former Arkansas men's basketball assistant coach Gus Argenal was named head coach at California-Riverside on Thursday. He spent the past two seasons as the head coach at California State-San Bernardino, where he had a 50-20 record and made the 2024 Division II Final Four.
Argenal is taking over at UC Riverside after its previous coach, Mike Magpayo, left for the same position at Fordham. Argenal was an assistant coach for the Razorbacks under former coach Eric Musselman from 2021-23.
Musselman left Arkansas following the 2023-24 season to take over at Southern Cal.
UC Riverside will be Argenal's first Division I head coaching job.
